What are Cosmetic Injections?

Injectable anti-wrinkle injections are a safe, effective and non-surgical way to treat facial lines and wrinkles. By relaxing these lines, you can produce an appearance that is fresh, smooth and natural. To do this, anti-wrinkle injections will be carefully placed to relax the muscles of your facial expression, which helps to soften existing lines. These injections also can help prevent new line formation and also help to contour your facial symmetry.

What happens with cosmetic injectables?

The treatment process for anti-wrinkle injectables involves a series of extremely small injections placed under the skin at dedicated sites around your face.

There is minimal discomfort associated with this procedure.

The effects of the anti-wrinkle injections will be seen over the following four-five days, with the full effect visible at the 2 week mark.

Treatment areas:

  • forehead
  • frown
  •  crow’s feet
  • brow lift
  • DAO – downturn corners of the mouth
  • pebbled chin
  • lip flip

The most common type of cosmetic injections provided for patients are anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers.

Anti-wrinkle injections are an effective, non-surgical muscle relaxant that allows the skin and collagen to repair. The treatment blocks signals from the nerves to the muscles.

The injected muscle can no longer contract which causes the wrinkles to relax and soften, leaving the skin smoother. Injectable or dermal filler is a soft tissue filler injected into the skin at different depths to help fill in facial wrinkles, provide facial volume, and augment facial features: restoring a smoother appearance. Most of these wrinkle fillers are temporary because they are eventually absorbed by the body.

Why would I have cosmetic injections at my doctor’s office?

Did you know that anti-wrinkle injections and dermal fillers are prescription items in Australia? They must by law be prescribed by a doctor to a particular person for a specific treatment.

For your safety, the Cosmetic Physicians College of Australia advises that you should have a face-to-face consultation with a doctor appropriately trained in cosmetic medicine. The doctor may elect to delegate the treatment to an appropriately trained nurse working under their supervision. Only a doctor is authorised to prescribe these products.

I've never had cosmetic injections before – how do I know what to ask for?

Speak to your doctor about the result you are trying to achieve, what your concerns are, and they will talk you through the treatment they recommend to help you achieve your desired result.
