Getting your annual Flu Shot is a great way to protect yourself against influenza. Flu Shots at Northcote Medical are fast and very easy for all patients to receive. Simply call us to make an appointment for your flu shot and one of our highly trained nursing team will assist you. You can also chat directly with your doctor about having a flu shot and to ask any questions you might have about if it’s right for you.
Flu viruses can change quickly and at different times of the year, so each year the Flu Shot vaccines are adjusted for the hemisphere you live in. You need to have your flu immunisation every year to help keep you protected from the influenza virus.
Having your flu shot will not protect you from COVID-19. However, we want to avoid anyone from being diagnosed with flu and coronavirus at the same time. You CAN have your flu shot and a COVID-19 vaccine on the same day.
Your flu shot immunisation provides you with the highest level of protection, in the first 3 – 4 months after your vaccine.
If you have booked to have your flu shot, and prior to your arrival you are feeling unwell, please call beforehand to discuss your appointment time with us.
Who should have the 2023 Flu Shot?
Your annual vaccination is the most important measure to prevent influenza and its complications. It is recommended for all people aged 6 months and over (unless contraindicated).
In 2023 the National Immunisation Program provides free vaccines to those most at risk, including:
- pregnant women at any stage of pregnancy;
- all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged six months and older;
- people aged 65 years and older;
- anyone six months or older with certain medical risk factors; and
- all children aged between six months and five years.
Any patient who is not included in the most at-risk groups listed above can also receive their flu shot at Northcote Medical.
For private patients outside of the at-risk groups, flu shots are $25
